“A leading voice in sustainable gardening and landscape design.”

Tuesday, August 5th

Nantucket Hotel Ballroom

Thank you to everyone who attended the Nantucket Land and Water Council's Annual Meeting with special guest speaker Edwina von Gal! Our meeting included remarks by our President, Lucy Leske, a report on our 2024 financials by our Treasurer, Laurel Langworthy, and an update from our Executive Director, Emily Molden, celebrating the year's accomplishments, highlighting new initiatives, and engaging with the community about our work to preserve Nantucket’s land and water resources. We also re-elected several members of our Board of Directors for a new 3 year term, and honored Legacy Advocate: the late and much-missed Steve Bender, whose passion and advocacy on behalf of our harbors made significant contributions to defending clean water on Nantucket.

This year, we had the exciting opportunity to welcome Guest Speaker Edwina von Gal, a nationally recognized leader in ecological design and toxic-free land care to the stage as part of our Grow Native for Nantucket initiative. Edwina’s dynamic presentation encouraged a relationship with the natural world by using native plants and sustainable landscaping practices to protect unique ecosystems, safeguard our water resources, and support local biodiversity.

Edwina’s engaging presentation brought a wealth of knowledge, creativity, and passion to the conversation around sustainable land stewardship. Her talk challenged the audience to rethink what beautiful landscapes can be—and how they can support the health of people, wildlife, and the planet. It was an honor to welcome her to Nantucket and have her share her expertise in the practice of protecting clean water and sustaining wildlife and biodiversity in our residential landscapes.

Following the presentation, our guests had the opportunity to mingle with Edwina and enjoy charcuterie and libations in the Hotel ballroom. We would like to extend a special thank you to Remain Nantucket for their support for our Grow Native for Nantucket initiative. Thank you again to everyone who attended our Annual Meeting for your support of our work as Nantucket’s environmental advocate!
