A Community Conversation on Coastal Resilience

Join us Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 for the NLWC's 10th Annual State of the Harbor Forum and gain critical information about issues affecting Nantucket’s Harbor.

Join the NLWC and speaker Shannon Hulst, Floodplain & Community Rating System Specialist for the WHOI Sea Grant Program and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, in an engaging dialogue about coastal resilience policy. Ms. Hulst will review several provisions of a model bylaw for Nantucket to consider incorporating into its local regulatory framework, and will seek community input on them. As the Town implements its Coastal Resilience Plan, we are looking for your opinion on how we build resilience into our harbor and surrounding properties and landscapes.

Laura Marrett, Principal from Scape Landscape Architecture DPC, will follow with a brief presentation outlining the Town of Nantucket’s new Strategic Retreat and Relocation Program. The Town is in the process of gathering community input as they design this program, and will be hosting in person and/or online opportunities for additional input later this summer.

A reception with drinks and a raw bar to follow!

Do You Know Your Flood Zone?

If you own property that is subject to coastal flooding, the implications of these model provisions may be different depending on your property’s flood zone designation. If you would like to confirm your flood zone designation in advance of the Forum, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Visit FEMA’s Flood Map Service Center HERE
  2. Enter your property address
  3. If any part of your property is in a blue area, it is in a regulatory flood zone. The designations of VE, AE, and elevation numbers attached to the blue areas determine what regulations apply and indicate the severity of your flood risk.
